Fernando Alonso mag rijden tijdens de komende Grand Prix van Hongarije. De Aston Martin-coureur kreeg medisch goedkeuring van de FIA, nadat hij vanwege een rugblessure afwezig was in de eerste vrije training.
Redactie, TPO, 1 augustus 2025 – Aston Martin maakte eerder op vrijdag bekend dat Alonso al sinds vorige week tijdens de Belgische GP geblesseerd was. Ter bescherming zat hij de eerste trainingssessie in Hongarije niet achter het stuur: “Hij koos ervoor om te pauzeren om zijn tijd in de auto te beperken terwijl hij een spierblessure in zijn rug beheert,” meldde het team op X.

“In the days following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been managing a muscular injury in his back.As he continues with treatment this morning, he has chosen to sit out of FP1.
Felipe Drugovich will drive in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll.

Reservecoureur Drugovich invaller
Terwijl Alonso herstelde, nam reservecoureur Felipe Drugovich zijn plek over tijdens de sessie. De Braziliaan, die al vier jaar reserve is bij Aston Martin en in 2022 kampioen werd in Formule 2, klokte de zestiende tijd — ruim drie tienden langzamer dan vaste rijder Lance Stroll. Drugovich wacht nog op zijn officiële F1-debuut.
Komst in beeld ondanks tegenslag
Drugovich kreeg al eerder kans om in te vallen. Hij deed bijvoorbeeld mee aan de voorafgaande test in 2023 toen Stroll geblesseerd uitviel, en werd eerder dit seizoen overwogen voor de Grand Prix van Canada toen Stroll herstellende was van een operatie. Uiteindelijk reed Stroll alle races.
Met de medische goedkeuring mag Alonso zondag plaatsnemen in de AMR25, waarmee hij zich weer mengt in de strijd op de Hungaroring.
