Berlin, 16 augustus (Reuters) – De Duitse bondskanselier Olaf Scholz (SPD) heeft na een ontmoeting met de Palestijnse president Mahmoud Abbas het woord ‘apartheid’ verworpen om de betrekkingen tussen Israël en de Palestijnse gebieden te beschrijven.
“Natuurlijk hebben we een verschillende beoordeling met het oog op de Israëlische politiek, en ik wil hier uitdrukkelijk zeggen dat ik het gebruik van het woord apartheid niet omhels en niet denk dat het de situatie correct beschrijft,” zei Scholz tijdens een gezamenlijke nieuwsconferentie met Abbas in Berlijn op dinsdag.

BERLIN, Aug 16 (Reuters) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected the word apartheid to describe relations between Israel and the Palestinian Territories after a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
“Naturally we have a different assessment with a view to Israeli politics, and I want to expressly say here that I do not espouse the use of the word apartheid and do not think it correctly describes the situation,” said Scholz during a joint news conference with Abbas in Berlin on Tuesday.
