Since the new government, Sweden has had a stricter migration policy. This means that the number of deportations of asylum seekers who are not entitled to a residence permit will begin to increase.

It is expected that by 2023 alone, there will be a 50% increase in rejected asylum seekers. To accommodate that, now the construction of a “super detention center” is planned at a yet undisclosed location in the Norrland region, where only 12% of Sweden’s population resides.

Existing places in detention centers will also be expanded, to at least 100 additional places.

Detainees to be searched

At existing detention centers, fences and walls will be raised and additional security measures will be used to prevent rejected asylum seekers from disappearing into illegality.

In addition, the new Swedish government wants guards at detention centers to be able to search detainees.
