Gedurende hun loopbaan, die nog altijd niet ten einde is, vormden de Stones een inspiratiebron voor velen en kleurden ze met hun muziek bovendien het cinematografisch geheugen van menig televisiekijker. Wie kent er niet de openingstune van hitserie Tour of Duty? Paint it black, inderdaad een Stones nummer. En ook in het nieuwe millenium komt hun muziek de huiskamers in via de beeldbuis, nu covers van Stones nummers worden gebruikt in alweer een nieuwe hitserie: Sons of Anarchy. Reden genoeg om een boek aan ze te wijden, te meer daar er natuurlijk meer over de Stones te weten is te komen dan alleen hun muziek.
