De band No Turning Back breekt met haar sponsor ‘Monster’ vanwege de boodschap die een recent reclamefilmpje van de energiedrankfabrikant uitdraagt. Op haar Facebook-pagina laat de band weten zich niet te kunnen vinden in het beeld dat het filmpje oproept. Ook de band This Routine is Hell is totaal niet gecharmeerd van het filmpje. Nu ook de alternatievere festivals steeds meer gesponsorde activiteiten en stands hebben, is het statement van de bands een breuk met die binnensluipende ‘commercialisering’.

After seeing the “Monster Energy Kicking it at Groezrock 2013″ video we decided to quit immediately the cooperation with Monster Energy. What is shown in the video is not what we stand for as band.
Het bericht van This Routine is Hell is nog iets explicieter in haar veroordeling en gaat in op waar de muziek(scene) volgens hen om zou moeten draaien en hoe de reclamefilm van Monster alles is waar het niet om zou moeten gaan:
Big corporations like Moster Energy drink (sic) have been cunningly trying to penetrate the ‘alternative’ scene by sponsoring festival for years and years, but this video just tops it all. Objectifying women, filled with rockstar attitude bullshit and making a lasting impression on young kids that it’s a good idea to fill your stomach with this unhealthy crap. I don’t know about you guys, but to me, this shit is exactly at the opposite end of what this music should be trying to achieve.
People need to be encouraged and supported to think for themselves, so let’s keep this corporate unhealthy bullshit ideology out of our music. Here’s the most honest and sincere answer I can give: FUCK YOU!
Het is natuurlijk nog maar de vraag of grote festivals zonder grote sponsors kunnen, maar in ieder geval zijn er naast de ontevreden gezichten in de zaal nu ook bands die zich uitspreken tegen associaties die tegen de boodschap op het podium in lijken te gaan.
