Batman Vs. Superman kreeg de laatste tijd al veel aandacht vanwege vreemde castingkeuzes. Eerst werd Ben Affleck gecast als Batman en vervolgens werd Gal Gadot (bekend uit de Fast And Furious-films) gecast als Wonder Woman. Nu kunnen we weer twee namen toevoegen aan de film.Allereerst is Jeremy Irons (Die Hard With A Vengeance) gecast als Batmans butler, Alfred. In de geschiedenis van het personage werd Batman bijgestaan door Michael Gough en recentelijk door Michael Caine. Regisseur Zack Snyder had het volgende te zeggen over de casting van Jeremy Irons:
“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne,”
Naast Jeremy Irons is er bekend gemaakt dat Jesse Eisenberg de rol van Superman zijn aartsvijand, Lex Luthor, zal vervullen. Naar mijn mening een vreemde maar interessante keuze. Tot voor kort deden er geruchten de ronde dat Bryan Cranston (bekend als Walter White/Heisenberg in Breaking Bad) de rol van de schurk op zich zou nemen. Daarnaast werd ook Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, Her) in verband gebracht met de rol. Snyder had het volgende te zeggen over waarom hij Eisenberg heeft gecast:
“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions,”
Het lijkt er dus op dat we een hele andere Lex Luthor zullen zien dan in de voorgaande Superman-films. Het personage werd eerder gespeeld door Kevin Spacey en Gene Hackman.
Batman Vs. Superman draait in mei 2016 in de bioscopen.
