A huge fire swept through the roof of the famed Notre-Dame Cathedral in central Paris on April 15, 2019, sending flames and huge clouds of grey smoke billowing into the sky. Het is nog maar de vraag of de Notre-Dame gered kan worden. Daarvoor vreest de Franse staatssecretaris van Binnenlandse Zaken, Laurent Nuñez. Rond 22 uur waren zo’n vierhonderd brandweerlieden in touw om de enorme vlammenzee te bestrijden. Dat doen ze met minstens achttien brandweerslangen.

“We weten niet zeker of we de verspreiding van het vuur in de noordelijke klokkentoren kunnen stoppen. Als die instort kunt u zich de enorme schade wel voorstellen”, zei de bewindsman.
