Brussel, 17 aug. (Reuters) – De vredesmacht van de NAVO in Kosovo is klaar om in te grijpen als de stabiliteit tussen Servië en Kosovo in gevaar komt, zei het hoofd van de alliantie na gesprekken met de Servische president Aleksandar Vucic over de recente spanningen tussen de buurlanden op de westelijke Balkan.
“Hoewel de situatie ter plaatse is verbeterd, is het de verantwoordelijkheid van alle partijen – met name van de functionarissen in Belgrado en Pristina – om te voorkomen dat de situatie opnieuw escaleert”, zei Jens Stoltenberg op een gezamenlijke persconferentie met Vucic in Brussel.
“Ik roep alle partijen op zich terughoudend op te stellen en geweld te vermijden. De NAVO blijft de situatie ter plaatse nauwlettend volgen. Onze KFOR-vredesmissie blijft gericht op haar VN-mandaat. Mocht de stabiliteit in gevaar komen, dan staat KFOR klaar om in te grijpen,” zei hij.

BRUSSELS, Aug 17 (Reuters) – NATO’s peacekeeping force in Kosovo is ready to intervene if stability between Serbia and Kosovo is at risk, the alliance’s chief said after talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on recent tensions between the western Balkans neighbours.
“While the situation on the ground has improved, it is the responsibility of all parties – particularly officials from Belgrade and Pristina – to prevent escalation again,” Jens Stoltenberg told a joint news conference with Vucic in Brussels.
“I call all sides to show restraint and to avoid the violence. NATO continues to monitor closely the situation on the ground. Our KFOR peacekeeping mission remains focused on its U.N. mandate. Should stability be jeopardized KFOR stands ready to intervene,” he said.
