Racist attacks and insults are increasingly affecting German children and young people, warn advice centers against racism and discrimination. The number of such attacks has almost doubled in Germany in one year, Sultana Sediqi of the Thuringian association Youth Without Borders told German media.
According to the annual report of the Association of Counseling Centers for Victims of Right-Wing, Racist and Anti-Semitic Violence, 520 children and adolescents were victims of extreme-right violence last year, a significant increase from the 288 minor victims in 2021.
.In 2022, up to five far-right attacks occurred daily in the 10 states where the advisory centers systematically record them. A total of 2,861 people inEast Germany, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein were direct victims of politically right-wing motivated attacks.
This increase and the presumably high number of unrecorded cases point to an urgent need for action and prevention, according to German media.
